In May 1875, Max Oettinger opened a tobacconist store at Eisengasse 9 in Basel, thus laying the foundations for today's Oettinger Davidoff AG. The family-owned company, which now operates all over the world, celebrates in 2025 its 150th anniversary. To mark the occasion, it is hosting some special events in the place where it all began and further strengthens its commitment to its "Crop to Shop" philosophy, with investments in its production and in its global retail network.

The highly anticipated American film will be presented Out of Competition at the Grand Théâtre Lumière. On Wednesday, May 14, actor and producer Tom Cruise, his long-time collaborator, director and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie, and the cast will walk the steps of the Palais des Festivals. This is only the Hollywood legend’s third appearance on the Croisette: the first in 1992, for the premiere of Ron Howard’s Far and Away, a few years went by before Tom Cruise’s memorable return in 2022, marked by the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick, his gripping masterclass and the emotional reception of his honorary Palme d’or.

With its record-breaking 2024 edition bringing together 90 000 spectators in over 600 cinemas from 46 countries worldwide, the upcoming 10th European Arthouse Cinema Day will make a global statement for (film-)cultural diversity, equity and dialogue across borders. Its 10th edition will return on 23 November 2025 and bring together audiences, arthouse cinemas, and film professionals worldwide to take a stand for the values of independent cinemas.
